GCCA-7

Seventh International Conference on Global Change: Connection to the Arctic (GCCA-7) was held on February 19-20, 2007, Fairbanks Princess Riverside Lodge, Fairbanks, Alaska, USA. The conference was jointly organized by International Arctic Research Center (IARC), Fairbanks Alaska, National Institute for Polar Research (NIPR), Tokyo Japan, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), Tokyo Japan, and International Organizing Committee for GCCA-7.

Outside air-temperature gauge showed minus 30 degree Cencius during the conference. The river beside the hotel was hidden by ice and snow. Meanwhile, the discussion was hot, and the Syun-Ichi Akasofu Reception and Tribute was held in warm ambience.

On the final day, student awards were given to excellent papers of the meeting. It is great news that two IJIS researchers, Mr. Ueyama and Mr. Muskett, received the honor.

Award-winning studies:

  • Satellite observation of ecosystem productivity over Alaskan black spruce forests - Masahito Ueyama
  • Acceleration of Thinning of the Tidewater Glaciers of Icy Bay, Alaska, from InSAR DEMs and ICESat Laser Altimetry - Reginald Muskett
