A pansharpened image is a composite high-resolution image, which high-resolution panchromatic imagery and lower-resolution multispectral imagery are combined into. Figure 1 (upper) is made from images taken by the Panchromatic Remote-sensing Instrument for Stereo Mapping (PRISM with the ground resolution of 2.5m at nadir) and the Advanced Visible and Near Infrared Radiometer-2 (AVNIR-2 with the ground resolution of 10m at nadir) on the Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) "Daichi" on August 18, 2007. Note that the resolution of this image is degraded for publication on the Web.
The IARC can be seen in the upper left of the image (Figure 2).
The city of Fairbanks is located at about latitude 65°N and longitude 147°W, and is the second biggest city after Anchorage in Alaska. It has a population of 30,000 and and an area of 85 km2.
Fairbanks is a home of aurora-watching because it is on the southern edge of the aurora zone and tourists can expect clear skies most of the time.
The Chena River winds through the city center from east to west, then flows into the Tanana River, one of the tributaries of the Yukon.
