Figure 1 depicts Fairbanks, Alaska, USA and its vicinity in true color visual as observed by the Advanced Visible and Near Infrared Radiometer-2 (AVNIR-2) on board the Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) "Daichi" in April 27, 2006.

JAXA has completed the initial checkout activities of the ALOS and moved to the initial calibration and validation phase. Full-scale operation is scheduled in the autumn 2006.

Figure 2 depicts the activity of vegetation in this area as the contrast of dark green and white. Dark green represents high activity and white represents the opposite. Paler areas in the red ovals are damaged by 2004 Alaskan large forest fire, where the activity of vegetation is still low.
